The Great Wall is a series of fortifications built across the historical northern borders of ancient Chinese states and Imperial China to protect against various nomadic groups from the Eurasian Steppe. The most well-preserved sections of the wall were built during the Ming dynasty (1368–1644). It is considered one of the greatest human achievements and is a popular tourist destination. The Great Wall is over 13,000 miles long and spans across several provinces in northern China.
